Amazon’s color screen Kindles are finally getting a system-wide dark mode

Introducing Dark Mode for Kindle Colorsoft and Scribe Colorsoft Devices

Kindle devices have long been known for their black and white E Ink screens, offering users an alternate inverted dark mode with white text on a black background. Now, Amazon has announced that this feature is expanding to the Kindle Colorsoft and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft devices, which feature color E Ink screens. Previously, these devices could only invert the pages of ebooks, but with a new software update, the system-wide dark mode will be available across the entire user interface.

The update bringing dark mode to Colorsoft devices will be rolling out globally in the coming weeks, with users able to download it from Amazon’s website. This dark mode can be applied system-wide, allowing users to choose which sections of the UI will use it. For example, users can have dark mode enabled for the homescreen, ebook library, and reading sections, while keeping the Scribe’s written notebooks in normal light mode.

In addition to dark mode, the Scribe Colorsoft’s notebooks are receiving an upgrade with Smart Shapes. Users can now add predefined shapes like lines, arrows, circles, triangles, and rectangles to their handwritten notes and sketches directly from the toolbar. A new hold-to-snap feature will also convert freehand drawings into precise shapes, ensuring neat and organized notes.
