Volkswagen Working on Hotter ID. Polo GTI Clubsport Variant

Reports suggest that Volkswagen is developing a more powerful Clubsport variant of the ID. Polo GTI, although the official unveiling is yet to take place. This new variant could potentially include features such as fake engine sounds and simulated gear changes.

Enhanced Performance and Technology

Florian Umbach, Volkswagen’s head of driving dynamics, hinted at the development of a higher-powered version of the ID. Polo to complement the GTI model. This new addition, possibly named the Clubsport, is expected to offer more power and torque than the GTI.

Umbach also mentioned the implementation of paddle shift power delivery similar to that found in Hyundai N cars. This technology focuses on software enhancements for the motor control unit and creating an engaging driving experience through a suitable soundtrack.

However, Umbach emphasized that the production of the Clubsport variant is contingent on the success of the GTI model in the market.

Features of the ID. Polo Range

The upcoming ID. Polo is set to be Volkswagen’s first electric GTI, boasting a 166kW/290Nm motor that drives the front wheels. It will also come equipped with a torque vectoring front axle, 19-inch wheels with 235-section tires, and a lowered ride height for improved handling.

Additional features include progressive steering assistance, adaptive dampers, stiffer anti-roll bars, and suspension enhancements to deliver a dynamic driving experience.

The ID. Polo GTI is expected to be available in German showrooms by the end of the year, with a rollout in other European markets in 2027. However, the availability of the ID. Polo and its variants in Australia is yet to be confirmed.
