The Highly Anticipated Civilization 7 Test of Time Update is Finally Here

After much anticipation, Firaxis has delivered on their promise with the release of Civilization 7’s Test of Time update. This update brings with it a game-changing feature that Civvers have been eagerly waiting for – the ability to play as one civilization throughout an entire campaign.

For longtime fans of the Civilization series, this update addresses a significant point of contention. With the Test of Time update, players now have the freedom to guide their chosen civilization beyond its historical peak, known as the Apex Age. Instead of transitioning to a new age, players can opt to continue with their current civilization, although the option to switch is still available.

Civilizations that play outside of their apex age are now referred to as Time-Tested civilizations, which consist of a unique framework comprising civics and syncretism. Time-Tested civs have their own tree that includes a special civic crafted specifically for that civilization in that particular age, along with a civic based on the civ’s attributes, and a new type of civic that allows for syncretism. This feature enables players to incorporate ideas from other civilizations into their own gameplay.

In addition to these changes, the Test of Time update introduces Triumphs, which replace Legacy Paths. Triumphs offer optional challenges tied to the core attributes in Civ 7, with minor triumphs providing immediate benefits and major triumphs requiring more focused investment for Dedications in the next Age. The update also revamps Victories, each with its own scoring system that players can work towards to achieve victory.
