Ubusuna Game Development Cancelled by M2

M2 has recently announced the cancellation of the highly anticipated shoot ’em up game, Ubusuna, which was supposed to be the successor to the popular Ikaruga game created by Hiroshi Iuchi.

The game was initially announced in 2014, but unfortunately, the latest update in 2022 showcased artwork and no real progress in development.

The official statement regarding the cancellation of “Ubusuna” development reads:

M2 Co., Ltd. Cancels “Ubusuna” Development

M2 Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to inform all supporters that the development of the shooting game title, Ubusuna, has been discontinued after being in progress since its announcement in 2014.

The game was being developed under the leadership of Hiroshi Inai, an in-house game creator at M2. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Mr. Inai resigned from his position, leading to the mutual decision to halt the project.

Despite efforts to continue the project post Mr. Iuchi’s departure, it was deemed unfeasible to complete Ubusuna without his involvement. Hence, the company decided to cease further development internally.

The company extends its sincerest apologies to fans worldwide, external creators, and game media outlets for not meeting the expectations surrounding the completion of “Ubusuna.”

Additionally, in light of the development halt, the “UBUSUNA SOUNDTRACK-EP-” video, previously available on the company’s YouTube channel, has been made private.

However, it’s important to note that Hiroshi Iuchi has not abandoned the idea of completing Ubusuna. There remains a possibility of reviving the project outside the company, albeit in a different form, offering hope for a potential reunion with the fans through a finished product.

The cancellation has had a significant impact on the emotional and physical well-being of fans, project contributors, and company employees. The company urges against speculative and defamatory behavior on social media platforms to prevent further distress.

Issued on May 24, 2026 by M2 Co., Ltd., signed by Naoki Horii, Representative Director.
