Google’s Pixel Buds update will put them to sleep along with you

Exciting Updates for Pixel Buds: Sleep Detection, Tap-to-Mute, and More

Google is rolling out a major update for Pixel Buds, introducing a range of new features to enhance the user experience. One of the standout additions is sleep detection, powered by the Pixel Watch, which will now be available for both pairs of earbuds. When wearing a Pixel Watch, the buds will automatically pause music, silence notifications, and disable touch controls when you fall asleep.

In addition to sleep detection, several other updates are on the way for both the Buds 2A and Pro models. A new tap-to-mute feature will allow users to quickly mute or unmute their microphone during calls, specifically designed for Pixel phone users. Live translation can now be activated with a single tap, and new Gemini voice commands offer greater control over features like active noise cancellation, EQ adjustments, and touch controls.

The latest addition to the feature lineup is Dynamic ANC, a feature exclusive to the Buds Pro 2. This technology adjusts audio and ANC levels based on how well the buds fit in the ears, providing a personalized listening experience.

The update rollout was announced in a Pixel Buds community forum post by Google. While the initial announcement mentioned that all features except Dynamic ANC would be available for the original Pixel Buds Pro, it has now been clarified that these updates will not be extended to the original model. Pixel communications lead Natalie Johnson confirmed this information to The Verge.

Update, October 7th: Confirmation has been provided that the Pixel Buds Pro will not receive the latest updates.
