Leonardo DiCaprio, yes that Leo, announces investment in Swedish EnergyTech startup Elvy

Leonardo DiCaprio Invests in Stockholm-based Energy Company Elvy

Elvy, a Stockholm-based Energy-as-a-Service company, has recently announced an undisclosed investment from Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio. This investment comes alongside the launch of a customer referral platform by the company.

This is not the first time DiCaprio has supported a European EnergyTech startup. In 2023, he backed the German residential solar provider Enpal.

The investment from DiCaprio is part of a €1.43 million second close of Elvy’s previously announced funding round. This announcement follows a remarkable tenfold increase in revenue for Elvy in 2025 compared to the previous year.

Johan Outinen, CEO and co-founder of Elvy, expressed his excitement about DiCaprio’s involvement, stating, “Leo has supported the energy space for a long time, his involvement is a strong vote of confidence in our potential to help build a better world. We’re super excited to welcome him on our journey.”

Elvy’s undisclosed investment from DiCaprio comes at a time when EU-Startups reported over €160.9 million in company-level funding in 2026 for European businesses focusing on household electrification, building energy efficiency, and distributed energy management.

Some notable funding rounds within this sector include €21 million for London-based Axle Energy, €15 million for Oslo-based Photoncycle, and €10 million for Berlin-based GALVANY.

In addition, Berlin-based Cloover secured significant financing to support residential energy deployment.

Elvy had previously raised €5.9 million in funding in May 2026 and secured a €500 million credit facility in December 2025.

DiCaprio commended Elvy for its approach to energy efficiency, stating, “Elvy is demonstrating that energy efficiency can be both measurable for homeowners and scalable as a business. The company can reduce a household’s energy consumption by an average of 60%, creating potential impact at the household level, while advancing a new model for how energy can be produced, managed, and consumed.”

Founded in 2023, Elvy focuses on installing smart, integrated energy systems and software accessible through the world’s first energy subscription. The company aims to help households reduce consumption, save money, and actively participate in Europe’s energy transition.

By combining hardware with optimization software, Elvy enables households to manage their energy more intelligently, leading to reduced consumption and costs.

Johan emphasized the importance of democratizing the energy transition, stating, “Today’s subsidies demand the consumer take on the financial burden of transitioning to renewables. Not only does it put the risk on the consumer, it also excludes everyone that doesn’t have that financial ability. With our app, consumers can earn money on speeding up the transition. We wish the government would enable this, but until then, we created our own subsidy program in order to democratize the energy transition.”

Elvy highlights that households rank as Europe’s second-largest energy consumer, indicating significant savings potential in converting regular houses into flexible energy assets.

The company’s impressive 10x revenue growth in 2025 signifies a significant milestone as Elvy expands its model and aims to bring integrated energy systems to more homes.
