Enhancing Efficiency: The Power of Windows Search in Windows 11

One of the most frustrating aspects of Windows 11, Windows Search, is getting a significant overhaul from Microsoft. The new redesigned Windows Search is currently undergoing testing and promises to be faster, more capable, and more modern.

Anshul Rawat, corporate vice president of the Windows product team at Microsoft, states, “This new Windows Search experience prioritizes speed. It’s built on WinUI 3 and is part of our broader initiative to modernize core Windows experiences.”

According to Microsoft, early testing of the new search demonstrates “substantial improvements in performance and memory usage.” The new UI features faster animations and a larger preview pane, enhancing user experience.

Beyond visual improvements, Microsoft is also enhancing the fundamentals of Windows Search. Rawat explains, “We’re enhancing how Windows Search interprets user queries, including better matching for typos and synonyms.”

The new Windows Search interface impressed users with its speed and clutter-free design during Microsoft’s recent Windows and Surface event. Unlike the current search function that takes time to display results, the new interface provides inline results similar to modern search interfaces in iOS and Android.

Notably, the updated Windows Search allows users to perform actions directly, such as enabling Bluetooth or dark mode, similar to third-party tools. Users can also multitask effortlessly by opening apps side-by-side or sending messages through Phone Link integration.

Microsoft is currently testing the new Windows Search interface with Windows Insiders, with plans to roll it out to Windows 11 in the near future. Rawat affirms, “Our aim is to make Windows Search more versatile, offering natural ways to express user needs, contextual information, and direct actions from search results.”
