Addressing renewed concerns of federal intervention, Mayor Daniel Lurie showcased San Francisco’s resurgence at an Amazon gathering. Lurie highlighted the city’s AI-driven renaissance as evidence of its overall recovery.

Refuting national narratives of urban decay, Lurie underscored decreasing crime rates, increased investments, and San Francisco’s pivotal role in the AI industry without explicitly mentioning President Trump or the proposed National Guard deployment.

In his first year in office, Lurie declared San Francisco as “open for business,” citing the presence of innovative companies like OpenAI as catalysts for the city’s economic rebound. He emphasized that many other city mayors envy the plethora of AI firms based in San Francisco.

“Every metric is trending positively,” Lurie stated, noting historic lows in violent crime and car break-ins. He spoke at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank during Amazon’s pre-annual event, showcasing the company’s latest robotics and logistics innovations.

Encouraging attendees to spread the word about San Francisco’s revitalization, Lurie asserted, “There’s a new mayor in town, and we’ve got this.” He praised Amazon’s collaboration with the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, which has delivered over 60 million meals to those in need.

Amazon executives highlighted their commitment to community service, including delivering free meals from food banks across the US and UK. They also emphasized the company’s focus on affordable housing in the Seattle region as part of its community-centric approach.

Lurie lauded Amazon’s partnership with the San Francisco food bank as a blueprint for other corporations to follow, emphasizing the company’s dedication to the city’s welfare.
