Tech Startup Cognition in Discussions for Record-Breaking $40B Funding Round
Cognition, the AI Coding Company, Eyes $40 Billion Valuation in New Funding Round
Reports suggest that Cognition, the company behind the AI coding agent Devin, is in talks with investors to secure a new funding round that could significantly increase its valuation. This follows a previous successful funding round where the company raised $1 billion at a $26 billion valuation back in May.
The potential new funding round aims to push Cognition’s valuation to at least $40 billion, based on the target of achieving a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate. Sources cited by Bloomberg have hinted at this ambitious goal.
Three months ago, during the announcement of its last funding round, Cognition’s Scott Wu revealed to TechCrunch that the company had already reached a $492 million annualized revenue run rate. He also mentioned that enterprises have been increasing their usage of Devin by 50% month-over-month for the past six months.
Wu, a well-known programmer in the industry, emphasized to TechCrunch that Devin is not positioned as a replacement for human programmers. Instead, the AI agent specializes in handling tedious tasks that many programmers prefer to avoid, such as updating old software or migrating applications between platforms. This unique offering has contributed to its rising popularity among enterprises, with notable customers including Mercedes-Benz, NASA, and Goldman Sachs.
