The Sinking City 2: Release Date and Gameplay Details

Frogwares has recently announced that The Sinking City 2 is set to be released on 18th August 2026. Along with this exciting news, they have also released a demo on Steam, allowing players to get a taste of what’s to come.

This sequel is set in the 1920s United States in the supernaturally flooded city of Arkham. While the original game focused more on gumshoe investigation in an open world setting, The Sinking City 2 takes a different approach, leaning more towards survival horror. This shift emphasizes combat, exploration, and a semi-open world structure to enhance the Lovecraftian setting. Players will still engage in investigation and solving mysteries, but it will be more integrated into the overall gameplay experience.

Our own Steve had the opportunity to try out the game recently and was impressed by the new direction Frogwares has taken with The Sinking City 2. In our preview, Steve expressed his excitement for the game, stating, “I was left eagerly anticipating more hands-on time with The Sinking City 2 for all sorts of reasons. The storyline is intriguing, the importance of the investigation aspects, and their effects on the game, and the sheer mechanical thrill of the combat all promise to come together to create a game that represents the full evolution of Frogwares’ approach. With a vague release set for sometime this summer, it shouldn’t be too long before we can get hands-on with Calvin’s occult investigation and I, for one, can’t wait.”

The announcement for The Sinking City 2 was made in March of 2024, following Frogwares’ successful acquisition of the publishing rights to the game. The Kickstarter campaign for The Sinking City 2 aims to raise $105,000, with the funds primarily serving as a safety net for the studio, considering Frogwares is based in Ukraine. Taking control of the publishing rights also allowed Frogwares to revisit the first game and release a remaster for newer hardware last year.
