Theker Secures $85M Funding for Versatile Factory Robot Development
Theker: Revolutionizing Robotics with Flexible Automation
Humanoids may not be ready to fully replace factory workers, but the manufacturing industry is eagerly embracing faster automation solutions due to labor shortages. Startups like Theker are at the forefront of this movement, offering innovative robotics technology that goes beyond traditional single-task robots.
Co-founder Carla Gómez Cano explained that Theker’s AI robotics are designed to adapt to various tasks, unlike humanoid robots with fixed forms. The machines can be reconfigured by swapping out hands, arms, and other components to suit different functions such as sorting packages, packing clothing, or handling warehouse items like bottles and cans.
With Inditex, the parent company of Zara, as an early supporter, Theker’s ambitions extend beyond retail into heavy industrial settings. The company aims to tackle the complexity and scale of manual tasks in manufacturing, positioning itself as a leader in the robotics industry.
The success of Theker has attracted significant investment, with a recent $85 million funding round marking Europe’s largest robotics Series A. Leading the investment is American VC firm CRV, with support from industry giants like Samsung and Aglaé Ventures, tied to LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault.
While Samsung is not yet a client, discussions are underway for potential partnerships. Theker’s strategy of bypassing innovation departments and engaging directly with logistics and operations has proven successful in securing real deals with notable companies.
To showcase its capabilities, Theker has established a showroom in Barcelona and plans to expand across Europe, the U.S., and Asia. The company is also ramping up hiring across tech, deployment, and sales functions to meet growing demand.
Despite exceeding initial fundraising goals, Theker remains committed to its Barcelona headquarters and the broader European tech ecosystem. Gómez Cano emphasized the region’s supportive environment for innovation and growth.
With plans for further expansion and a dedicated team, Theker is set to shape the future of robotics in manufacturing and beyond.
