Ram Australia keen for V8 return with TRX and Rumble Bee on the cards

Ram Trucks Australia is committed to bringing a V8 pickup truck back to local showrooms, focusing on the TRX and Rumble Bee ‘muscle truck’ family as the first models to be introduced.

The brand discontinued the V8 engine in the 1500 during a mid-life update in 2025, opting for the newer and more powerful ‘Hurricane’ twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine instead of the iconic ‘Hemi’ V8.

Despite this, Ram has unveiled new V8-equipped trucks in the US, including the 6.2-litre supercharged 1500 SRT TRX and the V8-only Rumble Bee. While not confirmed for Australia yet, Ram is transparent about its intentions to bring these models Down Under.

Joshua Dowling, a spokesperson for the brand, emphasized this during the local launch of the Ram 1500 Express Black Edition. He mentioned that the TRX is more likely to make its way to Australia, but engineering processes must be completed first.

The new TRX boasts an impressive 579kW of power and 922Nm of torque, making it the most powerful production ute worldwide. It can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 3.5 seconds, faster than its predecessor.

On the other hand, the Rumble Bee offers three engine options, including a 5.7-litre V8, a 6.4-litre V8, and the 6.2-litre supercharged V8 from the TRX. It has a 0-97km/h time of 3.4 seconds, making it the fastest petrol-powered production ute ever made.

While the arrival of these models in Australia is not confirmed, discussions are ongoing with the factory to secure an allocation. The conversion from left- to right-hand drive would be carried out by Walkinshaw in Melbourne, ensuring compliance with factory standards.

The TRX and Rumble Bee may face limited availability due to emissions regulations and anticipated demand. Pricing details are yet to be disclosed, but they are expected to be on the higher end. The NVES regulations could also impact the allocation for local buyers.

In conclusion, Ram Trucks Australia is actively working towards reintroducing V8 pickup trucks to the Australian market, with the TRX and Rumble Bee models at the forefront of this endeavor. Stay tuned for more updates on these high-performance vehicles.
