Ram 1500 Pickup Recall Hits Australian Market: 1.5 Million Vehicles Affected

Ram Trucks Australia has officially announced that the Ram 1500, the top-selling full-size pickup truck in the country, will be part of a global recall affecting over 1.5 million vehicles. The parent company, Stellantis, which owns the Ram brand, issued a recall in the US concerning a seatbelt issue impacting approximately 1,271,294 vehicles sold in that market.

According to Stellantis, certain Ram 1500 vehicles from 2019 to 2026 may have been assembled with second-row seat belt buckles that were not properly attached to the vehicle structure. This issue could compromise the performance of the second-row seat belt system in specific collision scenarios, potentially increasing the risk of injury to occupants.

In Australia, Ateco Australia has confirmed that around 800 vehicles will be affected by the recall. The company stated that they will recall MY25 and MY26 Ram 1500 vehicles produced since June 2025 to examine the rear seatbelts following the US recall campaign. Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Ram Trucks Australia or their local dealer for a free inspection. Fortunately, the over 20,000 Ram 1500 vehicles manufactured and sold locally since 2018, outside the specified production period, are not impacted by this recall.

The original statement from Stellantis mentioned that the recall extends to approximately 156,138 vehicles in Canada, 15,088 in Mexico, and 74,084 in other markets outside North America, resulting in a total estimate of 1,516,604 affected vehicles globally.

Despite the recall, the Ram 1500 remains Australia’s best-selling full-size pickup for eight consecutive years, surpassing competitors such as the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, and Toyota Tundra. Produced at Stellantis’ Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan, the Ram 1500 undergoes right-hand drive conversion for the Australian market by Walkinshaw Automotive Group in Melbourne, a process also undertaken for the Chevrolet Silverado and Toyota Tundra.
