DigixArt Teases Sequel to Road 96

DigixArt has recently hinted at the development of a sequel to Road 96, their popular procedurally generated road trip narrative adventure game released in 2021. The original game offered various endings for players to discover, and now, the team is gearing up for a continuation of the story. In the trailer’s description, they intriguingly state, “This might feel familiar to some of you. After all, some roads never really end.”

It appears that the sequel will focus on reuniting characters Fanny and John, a plot point that may hold different levels of surprise depending on the choices players made in the first game. Road 96 was known for its overtly political themes, drawing inspiration from real-world issues such as elections, false flag attacks, the fight against tyrannical regimes, and the challenges faced by teenagers attempting illegal border crossings. These themes resonated with players, especially in the aftermath of the first Trump presidency.

As DigixArt explores new narratives in the sequel, they are likely to draw inspiration from current events and global issues. The success of their previous title, Tides of Tomorrow, showcased the studio’s innovative approach to storytelling through asynchronous multiplayer gameplay. While Tides of Tomorrow received positive feedback, some players found the reliance on other participants to be a double-edged sword, occasionally limiting individual agency and causing narrative inconsistencies.

Despite these challenges, Tides of Tomorrow demonstrated DigixArt’s commitment to pushing boundaries in game development. With the upcoming sequel to Road 96, fans can expect a continuation of the studio’s thought-provoking narratives and engaging gameplay mechanics. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated project.
