Chamath Palihapitiya’s AI Coding Startup Secures Major Series A Funding Round

Renowned venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya, widely recognized for his work with Social Capital and the popular All-In podcast, made a significant announcement on Monday regarding the successful completion of a sizable Series A funding round for his latest venture.

Palihapitiya’s company, 8090 Labs, has recently closed a remarkable $135 million round of funding led by Salesforce Ventures. Notable participants in this funding round include industry heavyweights such as Jeffrey Katzenberg’s WndrCo, David Sacks’ Craft Ventures, as well as fellow All-In hosts and close associates David Friedberg and Jason Calacanis, alongside prominent angel investors like Nikesh Arora and Adam D’Angelo.

Established by Palihapitiya in January 2024, 8090 Labs aims to provide an AI coding agent tailored for corporate programming teams. The company’s flagship product, Software Factory, is designed to assist corporate coders in utilizing AI technology to develop high-quality software for production purposes, equipped with essential enterprise controls like audit trails.

In addition to this fundraising success, Palihapitiya has also revealed his decision to assume the role of CEO at 8090 Labs, indicating a more hands-on approach to leading the startup rather than solely serving on the board.

Reflecting on the current AI landscape, Palihapitiya draws parallels to his early experiences at Facebook during the emergence of social media, emphasizing the significance of the technological advancements taking place today. He expressed his unwavering commitment to the project, describing it as a pivotal moment that compelled him to return to a full-time operational role, highlighting the paramount importance of the work being undertaken at 8090 Labs.
