Thomas Dohmke, the former CEO of GitHub, has launched a new startup called Entire. Entire is introducing a distributed network for mirroring code repositories to address the challenges faced by centralized platforms in handling the demands of AI coding agents.

With a $60 million seed round funding, Entire is rolling out a preview of its distributed Git network in the U.S., Europe, and Australia. Developers can easily mirror their existing GitHub repositories onto Entire, allowing AI agents to clone and pull code from a faster and closer copy.

Dohmke emphasizes the importance of being distributed in software development, quoting Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux and Git. He highlights the limitations of centralized Git hosting when faced with the increasing strain of agents and developers on a central server.

GitHub, which was acquired by Microsoft for $7.5 billion, is the leading platform for storing and collaborating on software code. Entire, co-founded by Dohmke and Cole Driver, aims to complement existing coding agents rather than compete with them.

Entire’s $60 million seed round was led by Felicis, Madrona, Microsoft’s venture arm M12, and Basis Set Ventures, with individual investors such as Jerry Yang and Garry Tan. The company is valued at $300 million, making it the largest seed investment for a developer tools startup.

Madrona sees Entire as a potential next great developer platform, working alongside major coding agents to enhance the developer experience. The company plans to introduce commercial and individual pricing tiers after the preview period.

Entire offers unique features such as Entire Blame, Entire Review, and Code and Semantic Search, focusing on enhancing code collaboration and understanding. The platform integrates with major coding agents and emphasizes the importance of session logs in software development.

Entire’s vision goes beyond just mirroring repositories and aims to become a comprehensive developer platform that enhances code collaboration and understanding. With its innovative approach and strong investor backing, Entire is set to make waves in the developer tools space.

Stay tuned for more updates on Entire’s journey and the evolution of its distributed Git network.
