Apple has recently launched its 2026 Back to School Promotion in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, shifting back to gift cards after offering free accessories last year. The promotion, traditionally held in June, has returned to its original July schedule this year. This change may be a result of Apple’s recent price increases, which have elevated educational pricing to new levels.

In June, Apple raised prices across its Mac and iPad product lines, impacting educational pricing as well. While the Back to School promotion may not directly address these price hikes, customers purchasing a new MacBook or iPad will receive a gift card as a bonus.

In previous years, Apple’s summer student promotion featured headphones from 2015-2019 and AirPods in the early 2020s before transitioning back to gift cards in 2022. Last year’s deviation to free accessories was a one-time occurrence, with the company reverting to gift cards this year. Although a gift card may not equate to cash, it offers more practicality than unnecessary headphones.

The gift card received through the promotion can be used for various purchases within the Apple ecosystem, including apps and subscriptions. The values of the gift cards are straightforward: $150 for a MacBook Pro and $100 for a MacBook Air, iPad Pro, or iPad Air. However, only these four products are eligible for the promotion, excluding other devices such as desktop Macs or the MacBook Neo.

Qualified purchasers, including faculty, staff, and higher education students, are eligible for the promotion. Parents can also make purchases on behalf of their post-secondary students. The promotion runs until August 27, 2026, offering ample time for customers to explore other deals.

While Apple’s gift card promotion provides some savings, customers are advised to compare prices with other retailers and consider purchasing from Apple’s Certified Refurbished store for like-new devices. The limited product eligibility and short promotion duration emphasize the importance of exploring alternative options for better deals.
