Bee: Your Personal Shopping Assistant on the Go
Last year, Amazon made a significant move by acquiring Bee, a lesser-known startup, which offered a $50 always-listening AI wearable device that could summarize every conversation you had. Fast forward to today, Amazon is unveiling two new Bee devices, along with a new subscription service to complement them.
The first device is the Bee Frontier, priced at $74.99, which is an upgraded version of the original Bee wearable. Additionally, there is the Bee Eclipse, a credit-card-shaped gadget that attaches magnetically to the back of a smartphone, priced at $99.99. Both devices are designed to help users stay focused and present in the moment by listening to daily conversations and providing summaries, transcripts, insights, and to-dos based on the day’s events. Similar in concept to other AI note-taking gadgets like Plaud NotePin and Limitless AI, Bee devices can be integrated with various services such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple HealthKit, and photos, enabling the AI to take actions like drafting emails or sending calendar invites based on conversations.
The key distinction between the two devices lies in their form factor. While the Bee Frontier can be worn as a wristband or a clip-on pin, the Eclipse is a non-wearable option aimed at professional use cases, boasting a longer battery life of 21 days on a single charge. Both devices feature recording indicator lights and encryption for privacy, with the Frontier offering seven days of battery life and an IP67 water resistance rating.
In addition to the free features, Amazon is introducing a Bee Pro subscription priced at $11.99 per month. The subscription offers enhanced features such as unlimited summaries, suggested to-dos, daily memories, a personal chat assistant, conversation templates, third-party app integrations, and a desktop app. The standout feature of the subscription is the compatibility with Amazon and Alexa Plus, allowing for shopping suggestions based on conversations and hands-free access to Bee insights.
Amidst concerns about surveillance technology, Amazon assures users that Bee devices encrypt transcripts and do not store audio recordings. Privacy measures include automatic recording cessation in the absence of sound and the option for users to train the AI on their voice only. The Bee Frontier is currently available in black, green, and lavender, while the Eclipse will be released soon in black, pink, yellow, and silver.
Overall, Amazon’s latest Bee devices and subscription service offer innovative solutions for staying organized and focused, with enhanced privacy features to address privacy concerns. Whether you’re looking for a wearable or non-wearable option, Bee has something to offer for every user’s needs.
