Introducing the Denza Z9 S: The Compact Electric Sedan Companion to the Z9 GT

The Denza Z9 S sedan’s exterior has been unveiled in China, showcasing a design similar to the Z9 GT. This electric sedan is set to hit Australian showrooms later this year, featuring ‘flash’ ultra-fast charging technology.

Designed by former Audi designer Wolfgang Egger, the Z9 S shares the same design language as the Z9 GT but in a smaller body built on the e3 platform.

While Denza Australia is considering all models for the local market, it has not confirmed whether the Z9 S will be part of the Australian lineup. The brand initially launched in Australia in 2025 with the B5 and B8 off-road SUVs.

The Z9 GT is confirmed for Australian showrooms in the third quarter of this year, with local buyers expected to receive the electric version of the sleek wagon first. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version sold in China may be launched in Australia at a later date.

The newly revealed Z9 S is slightly smaller than the Z9 GT, measuring 5090mm long with a 3025mm wheelbase. Technical details are limited, but the Z9 S is expected to offer three battery-electric powertrains, including a flagship model with a tri-motor setup producing 1194hp.

Compared to the Z9 GT, which produces 850kW and has a 0-100km/h time of 2.7 seconds, the Z9 S is expected to offer impressive performance.

While specific details about the flagship Z9 S are not confirmed, the Z9 GT uses a 122.496kWh Blade 2.0 battery, providing up to 820km of range. The Z9 S is estimated to offer 780km of range under similar test conditions.

In addition to the flagship model, the Z9 S will also be available with two single-motor powertrains in China. These variants are expected to offer up to 920km of driving range under the CLTC test cycle.

Furthermore, Denza has confirmed plans to introduce ultra-fast charging technology at its dealerships in Australia, with the aim of expanding this technology to other locations across the country.

In China, the Z9 S will feature 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels, a top speed of 250km/h, and the latest God’s Eye B advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) incorporating LiDAR and artificial intelligence (AI).

Aside from the Z9 S, Denza has also unveiled the Denza Z sports car in both Spider and Coupe body styles, designed to compete with the Porsche 911. While not yet confirmed for Australia, the Z sports car is available in right-hand drive and will launch in the United Kingdom later this year.

BYD, Denza’s parent company, has seen significant sales growth in Australia, coming close to surpassing Toyota in June 2026. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the Australian automotive market.
