Legal Troubles for Mercedes-AMG Over Seat Badge Heating Issue

Mercedes-AMG is currently embroiled in a legal battle in the United States, and the cause of concern revolves around a seemingly insignificant component – the emblem on the seats.

A lawsuit filed in California highlights the issue of the metal AMG badge embedded in the seatbacks of specific models, such as the Mercedes-AMG E-Class. The plaintiffs claim that the raised metal logo can reach scorching temperatures under direct sunlight, leading to potential burns.

One notable incident involved a car owner who encountered a burn after coming back to her parked vehicle post-lunch, due to contact with the emblem. The woman asserts that the metallic AMG logo had heated up to the extent of leaving a mark resembling the AMG insignia on her skin. Another plaintiff reportedly suffered a second-degree burn in a similar situation while heading to the gym.

Although elevated cabin temperatures in parked cars are not uncommon – with interior surfaces often reaching extreme levels under direct sunlight – the specific concern here is the ability of metal surfaces to absorb and retain heat more intensely than materials like leather or fabric.

The lawsuit was officially filed on August 6, 2026, in a US District Court in California. Mercedes-AMG has yet to issue a formal response to the allegations. However, given the gravity of the situation, their silence is unlikely to endure.
