Lamborghini CEO Announces Lanzador as Plug-In Hybrid Model, Not Fully Electric
Lamborghini Lanzador: Shifting Gears Towards a Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain
Lamborghini is making a strategic pivot with the upcoming Lanzador model. Originally intended to be the brand’s first all-electric vehicle, this four-seater coupe will now feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain instead.
The Lanzador is still on track to join Lamborghini’s lineup as the fourth model in 2028. However, the initial plan of equipping it with a dual-motor electric system generating 1,341 hp has been shelved. Earlier this year, Lamborghini announced that the production version would integrate an internal combustion engine with electric motors. CEO Stephan Winkelmann has now confirmed this decision.
According to Winkelmann, “We opted to transition the Lanzador from full electric to plug-in hybrid, which has been warmly received by customers. They are very pleased with this change.”
Lamborghini has not disclosed the specific details of the Lanzador’s new powertrain. One potential configuration could mirror the setups seen in the Revuelto and Temerario models, where electric motors complement a V8 or V12 engine. However, adapting such a system to fit within the Lanzador’s four-seater coupe design may necessitate significant modifications.

Alternatively, the Lanzador could potentially adopt a variation of the electrified twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 found in the Urus SE model. With this setup, the production Lanzador might easily surpass 800 hp. Matching the 907 hp output of the Temerario could position it as a formidable grand tourer.
