Apple Layoffs Impact Siri and Vision Pro Teams

Recent reports from Bloomberg reveal that Apple has made significant cuts to its Siri and Vision Pro teams, resulting in the layoffs of more than 200 employees. These layoffs include the closure of a Vision Pro gaming team and a reduction in the size of the team responsible for creating Vision Pro immersive content.

Apple’s Response to the Changes

In a statement to Bloomberg, Apple explained that these changes are part of their strategy to evolve their business and provide the best user experiences. The company plans to create new roles as part of this transition. However, Apple has not yet responded to requests for comment from The Verge.

The Future of Vision Pro and Siri

Apple’s Vision Pro, launched in early 2024, aimed to revolutionize spatial computing but has not achieved the expected success. While there are reports of a new, slimmer headset in development, Apple has faced challenges in collaboration with Samsung Display for an entry-level XR machine. On the other hand, Apple is gearing up to release its own smart glasses, following the success of Meta’s smart glasses. Reports suggest that Apple plans to announce these smart glasses at WWDC in 2027 and launch them later that year.

Revamped Siri and Future Developments

Apple recently introduced an AI-powered version of Siri at this year’s WWDC, set to be available to the public in beta later this year. This marks a significant update to the virtual assistant, enhancing its capabilities and user experience.
