Apple has a knack for inadvertently leaking its own products, as was the case with the unexpected reveal of the “MacBook Neo” just before its announcement. Recently, a video file left in the final release candidate for macOS 26.7 Tahoe has unveiled another exciting leak – the highly anticipated AirPods with Cameras.

While the spotlight is on macOS 27 Golden Gate, Apple insider Aaron Perris discovered the video file, providing a sneak peek at the rumored camera-equipped earbuds. These AirPods with Cameras are not designed for capturing photos on the go but rather for enhancing Apple’s Visual Intelligence capabilities, allowing Siri to provide information about the user’s surroundings.

The brief video clip showcases a man wearing the AirPods, with Siri explaining the feature: “With Visual Intelligence, your world becomes saveable. See something you like, just ask me to save it for later.”

Similar to the iPhone’s Visual Intelligence feature, the AirPods version is expected to rely on Siri voice commands to capture images for later review on the iPhone. The integration of Visual Intelligence into the iPhone camera in iOS 27 hints at a seamless user experience across Apple devices.

Reports of cameras on AirPods date back to 2024, with rumors gaining traction in recent months. Apple’s exploration of camera technology aligns with its advancements in Visual Intelligence and ongoing development of smart glasses and AI technology.

Initially slated for a late 2026 release, the AirPods with Cameras have reportedly been delayed to 2027, possibly coinciding with a major iPhone update for the product’s 20th anniversary. Speculation suggests that Apple may release interim AirPods without cameras, codenamed B790, before launching the camera-equipped AirPods.

Contrary to earlier predictions, Apple may opt for branding the new AirPods as the next-generation AirPods Pro instead of using the “Ultra” moniker. The decision to maintain the AirPods Pro branding indicates a focus on the camera feature as the primary selling point, rather than introducing additional enhancements to sound quality or noise cancellation.
