The MINI Paul Smith Edition: A Collaboration Revived

MINI enthusiasts had to wait nearly two decades for a new collaboration between the iconic automaker and British designer Paul Smith. After the success of the 1998 MINI Paul Smith Edition, the partnership was reignited in 2021 with the STRIP Cooper SE, followed by the RECHARGED model in 2022, both of which were not available for purchase.

However, all is forgiven as the MINI Paul Smith Edition makes its debut at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, finally offering fans a car they can actually buy. This special edition is available in all three body styles – three- and five-door hatchbacks, as well as the convertible – and gives customers the choice between combustion engines and electric powertrains, although the sporty John Cooper Works variant is absent.

For those looking to pay homage to the past, the MINI Paul Smith Edition can be ordered in Statement Grey, reminiscent of the 1959 Mini Austin Seven, or Inspired White, a tribute to the Classic Mini Beige. These exclusive colors are complemented by the familiar Midnight Black from MINI’s current palette.

To honor Paul Smith’s hometown, the roof of the MINI Paul Smith Edition is finished in Nottingham Green, which is also mirrored on the side mirror caps, wheel center caps, and the grille’s outline. For a darker option, buyers can choose a roof with multiple stripes in varying shades of matte and glossy Jet Black.

The attention to detail is evident throughout the design, with subtle nods to Paul Smith’s signature style. The iconic striped motif appears on the driver’s side of the roof, while the MINI logos are finished in Black Blue, and Smith’s signature adorns the rear horizontal trim strip.

Inside, the MINI Paul Smith Edition exudes a refined elegance. The dashboard is wrapped in authentic Paul Smith-branded striped fabric, with knitted textiles accenting the seat shoulders and headrests. Even the steering wheel features the designer’s signature motif on the lower spoke.

The infotainment system is customized with three Paul Smith backgrounds, and special touches like handwritten “Hello” light projections and Smith’s motto, “Every day is a new beginning,” engraved on the door sills add a personal touch. The floor mats even feature a hand-drawn rabbit motif.

Experience the MINI Paul Smith Edition firsthand at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo until November 9, and make a statement with this unique collaboration between MINI and Paul Smith.
