BYD’s Second-Generation Seal 07 Sedan: Bigger and Better than Ever in China

BYD has officially unveiled the second-generation Seal 07 in China, just six months after the original Seal 07 electric sedan was launched. The new model was previously revealed in Chinese government certification documents. The first-generation Seal 07 plug-in hybrid was released in China in 2025, while the electric version, known as the Seal 07 EV, was launched in March 2026.

The new Seal 07 will be available in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery-electric (EV) forms. There is a possibility that it may be offered in Australia alongside other electric sedan models. Australian government certification filings indicate that the plug-in hybrid version of the Seal 07 could be BYD’s second PHEV sedan in local showrooms.

The size of the new Seal 07 has increased significantly compared to its predecessor. It measures 5080mm long, 1960mm wide, and 1495mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2960mm. This makes it larger than the Seal 6 models available in Australia. The new Seal 07 adopts BYD’s ‘Ocean Aesthetics 2.0’ design philosophy, featuring a closed-grille design, wave-shaped split headlights, and a full-width tail-light assembly.

The second-generation Seal 07 will be available in both PHEV and EV versions. The PHEV model is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor, and a 38.029kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The EV version will come with a rear-mounted 300kW electric motor and a WLTP range of at least 718km.

The new Seal 07 features BYD’s ‘God’s Eye B’ advanced driver-assistance system, a panoramic sunroof, semi-hidden door handles, and a choice of 18-inch or 19-inch wheel designs. The vehicle also comes equipped with a roof-mounted LiDAR.

The rapid replacement of the current Seal 07 models may be due to weak demand, with sales in China totaling just over 1000 units in August. In Australia, the Seal remains BYD’s best-selling sedan, outselling newer models such as the Seal 6 sedan and wagon.

Overall, the new Seal 07 represents a significant upgrade in size and features compared to its predecessor. With its advanced technology and updated design, it aims to attract a wider range of customers looking for a stylish and efficient electric sedan. The future availability of the Seal 07 in Australia is yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to continue BYD’s success in the electric vehicle market.
