The Latest Apple Smart Home Hub: What We Know So Far

Recent reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman have shed light on the upcoming launch event for Apple’s new smart home hub. While first-gen devices are typically approached with caution, this one seems to be an exception.

Known internally as code-name J490, many are already dubbing it the Apple HomePad, given its expected functionality and design. The device has faced delays over the years due to the intricate development of Siri AI.

According to Gurman, the smart home hub will feature a sleek, roughly 6-inch square display, with a thickness comparable to that of an iPhone. It can be conveniently placed on a countertop or wall-mounted, with an alternative version known as J491 designed specifically for wall mounting.

One of the standout features of the device is its ability to function as a network of hubs within a home. Additionally, it boasts a unique light around the edge that activates upon approach.

In terms of design, the new smart home hub draws inspiration from Apple’s iconic iMac G4 from 2002, evident in its domed base and polished metal arm.

With a larger display and automatic movement akin to Facebook’s previous Meta Portal smart screens, the Apple HomePad promises to be a game-changer in the smart home space.

The Apple HomePad is designed to cater to multiple household members through advanced voice recognition technology. It offers a personalized interface and data based on individual users. In addition to controlling various smart home devices such as thermostats, the device allows for FaceTime calls, photo viewing, music playback control, and much more.
