Inside LG’s Stealthy Collaboration with Apple: The Future of Smart Home Technology
Apple is gearing up to make a big splash in the smart home device market with the launch of its long-awaited smart home hub, Apple TV 4K, and HomePod mini at a rumored event on October 13. This move is expected to pave the way for a new wave of smart home devices from various manufacturers, but LG Electronics seems to have a head start.
According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, LG Electronics has been collaborating with Apple to develop a range of smart home accessories that will be compatible with the new home hub. This partnership has allowed LG to work closely with Apple in creating indoor and outdoor security cameras, floodlight cameras, temperature sensors, video doorbells, thermostats, and smart deadbolt locks that support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, and Matter technologies.
While LG is a newcomer to the smart home market, it is positioning itself to be a key player with its lineup of Apple-compatible accessories. These devices are expected to offer seamless integration with Apple’s ecosystem, although details about their specific features and differences from existing products remain unclear.
Apple’s collaboration with LG follows a similar pattern to its past partnerships with the company, such as in the production of displays for Mac computers. LG’s acquisition of the Homey smart home platform in 2024 further solidifies its entry into the smart home arena, where it aims to compete with established brands like Amazon Ring and Google Nest.
In addition to working with LG on smart home accessories, Apple is also developing its own privacy-focused home security camera that uses AI to analyze surroundings without recording video. This product is expected to complement Apple’s existing HomeKit platform, which supports third-party video cameras with secure cloud storage.
Overall, Apple’s foray into the smart home market signals a new chapter in the company’s ecosystem expansion, with LG playing a significant role in bringing Apple-compatible smart home accessories to the market. As Apple continues to innovate in this space, consumers can expect a wider range of options for enhancing their smart home experience.
