603 hp Anticipation: The iX3 M60 Reimagined
In the realm of electric vehicles, BMW is making waves with its latest offerings. The BMW iX3 M60 xDrive is equipped with two Gen6 M eDrive motors, delivering a formidable 450 kW of power. This impressive setup is set to be shared with the upcoming Neue Klasse i3 M60 (NA0), expected to hit the market in early 2027.
The i3 M60 xDrive is shrouded in mystery when it comes to power figures, but with the iX3 M60 as a reference point, it’s safe to assume that it will pack quite a punch. The dual-motor configuration of the iX3 M60 hints at a potential torque output of 875 Nm (645 lb-ft), promising exhilarating performance that could surpass the SUV’s 3.9-second 0-100 km/h sprint.
Looking at the numbers, the i3 M60 is projected to deliver 603 hp, a modest increase over the i4 M60. However, where it truly shines is in its reported WLTP range of 830 km, far surpassing the i4 M60’s 551 km range. Production of this powerhouse is slated to commence in early 2027, with pricing details yet to be disclosed. The entry-level i3 50 xDrive starts at $61,500 before destination charges.
BMW enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating whether the i3 M60 will inherit the iX3 M60’s drivetrain. Both models boast two Gen6 M eDrive motors, controlled by the Heart of Joy computer and BMW M Dynamic Performance Control. Steering-wheel paddles allow for personalized driving dynamics, and production for both models is set to kick off in the first half of 2027. The rear motor of the iX3 M60 has been upgraded with a new stator and a 420-amp inverter, enhancements that could potentially carry over to the sedan.
If the i3 M60 does indeed share the iX3 M60’s hardware, it stands to benefit from the SUV’s impressive 875 Nm of torque. With a reported acceleration time of 3.9 seconds for the iX3 M60, the lighter sedan is poised to outperform its larger counterpart.
Comparing the i3 M60 to BMW’s existing electric M Performance models, the differences become apparent. While the i4 M60 xDrive generates 442 kW (593 hp) with Boost engaged, the i3 M60’s 450 kW output represents a marginal increase. However, the impending arrival of the electric M3, anticipated to produce around 800 hp, sets the stage for an electrifying lineup from BMW.
In terms of range, the i3 M60 is expected to outshine its predecessors. With the iX3 M60 sporting a 108.7-kWh battery and a WLTP range of up to 754 km, the i3 M60 could potentially achieve an impressive range of up to 830 km. In comparison, the i4 M60 manages a range of 551 km.
BMW has divulged some key details about the i3 M60, including the presence of M Sport seats with 10-way electric adjustment and a massage function. The exterior features distinctive elements such as an exclusive front light graphic, M-specific taillights, and M Yellow Lights shared with other M models. Additionally, the i3 M60 will come equipped with 21-inch Style 1067M aero wheels and eye-catching red brake calipers. M Performance Parts will be available for customization, offering carbon fiber accents and aerodynamic enhancements.
For eager fans in the United States, the i3 M60 is expected to enter production in early 2027. Pricing details are yet to be disclosed, but given the starting price of $61,500 for the i3 50 xDrive, the M60 variant is anticipated to command a premium. The iX3 M60 is following a similar production timeline, with orders opening in late January and production scheduled to commence in Debrecen, Hungary, in the spring. The arrival of the i3 M60 heralds a new era of electrifying performance from BMW, setting the stage for a thrilling lineup of electric vehicles.
