During a recent interview with David Phelan from The Independent, Tim Cook, the former CEO and current executive chairman of Apple, discussed his decision to pass the CEO role to John Ternus just before the launch of the iPhone Duo.

The interview took place at Apple’s UK headquarters in Battersea Power Station, where Cook talked about the transition of power to Ternus. Cook was described as relaxed, enthusiastic, and focused during the interview.

John Ternus, the former Apple hardware engineering chief, officially took over as Apple’s CEO on September 1. Cook mentioned that the transition was a carefully planned process that started years ago.

Cook explained his decision to step down right before the unveiling of the iPhone Duo, stating that he wanted Ternus to have a strong start in his new role. He emphasized the importance of providing Ternus with immediate momentum.

Reflecting on his own transition as Steve Jobs’ successor in 2011, Cook shared advice he received from Jobs about making the role his own and not trying to mimic his predecessor. Cook passed on similar advice to Ternus.

As the executive chairman of Apple’s board of directors, Cook clarified that he is not interfering with Ternus’ leadership. He emphasized the importance of trust and frequent communication in their relationship.

Apple recently announced a partnership with King Charles III’s “The King’s Trust” for an education program aimed at nurturing young talent in the creative industries. Cook highlighted the program as a unique way for Apple to give back.

Since 2019, Apple has been supporting The King’s Trust in expanding STEAM programming to schools across the country. The Achieve program and Team program provide coding education resources and access to Apple technology for young individuals.
