Samsung’s SmartTag 3: A Game-Changer in Tracker Ecosystem

For approximately five years, Samsung has been offering its own version of AirTag-style trackers called SmartTag, which has gained popularity among users. These trackers, similar to Apple’s GPS devices, are exclusively designed to work within the Samsung ecosystem.

One common complaint about SmartTag has been its limitation to Samsung devices, given that Samsung phones operate on the Android platform.

Addressing this concern, Samsung recently introduced the SmartTag 3, which now supports iPhone compatibility, although with some limitations compared to its integration with Galaxy phones. However, the broader Android support remains a point of contention.

Samsung’s SmartTag 3 Compatibility

Initially, Samsung stated that SmartTag 3 would be compatible with other Android devices through the Google Play Store, enabling users to download the necessary SmartThings and Samsung Find apps.

However, further investigation by Android Authority revealed that broader compatibility with non-Galaxy Android devices is not in the works.

A Samsung spokesperson confirmed that SmartTag 3 currently only works with Galaxy devices among Android smartphones, with no immediate plans to extend support to other Android devices.
