Revolutionizing Communication: How Honeyjar’s AI Tools are Transforming PR Strategies Across Industries
Can AI Revolutionize the PR Process? Honeyjar Thinks So
Many in the industry believe that the traditional PR process is flawed, but could artificial intelligence (AI) hold the key to making it better? Honeyjar, a startup attending this week’s TechCrunch Disrupt event as part of the Startup Battlefield 200, aims to democratize the expertise and judgment of top PR professionals, making it accessible to all, including clueless founders.
Founded by CEO Michelle Masek and CCO Nadia Jamshidi, both seasoned PR experts with extensive experience in the field, Honeyjar seeks to address the challenges faced in providing strategic communications and marketing support to numerous portfolio companies. The startup automates tasks such as drafting announcements, identifying suitable journalists to pitch to, and pinpointing valuable speaking opportunities.
However, Honeyjar’s vision extends beyond mere press coverage and AI tools. According to Jamshidi, the ultimate goal is to streamline the entire communications workflow, encompassing signals, context, strategy, judgment, timing, and execution.
Moreover, Honeyjar isn’t just targeting founders; Masek emphasizes that there are millions of individuals across various roles who are responsible for communication tasks. The platform aims to empower these “unassigned communicators” by providing them with the tools and guidance needed to excel in strategic communications.
It’s important to note that Honeyjar isn’t looking to replace PR professionals; rather, it aims to enhance the effectiveness of PR firms and in-house communications teams. By leveraging AI technology, Honeyjar can assist individual PR practitioners in managing additional clients without incurring scaling costs.
Upon launching its waitlist, Honeyjar garnered 10,000 signups within the first 24 hours. Beta testers include prominent entities such as Nextdoor, Coco Robotics, Bloomberg Beta, Mission North, and Full Picture.
While Honeyjar’s capabilities offer promise for companies seeking heightened visibility, there are concerns about potential challenges for journalists. The influx of AI-generated pitches poses a risk of inundating media professionals. However, Masek reassures that human involvement remains paramount, as customers must personally approve and send out pitches generated by Honeyjar.
Furthermore, the founders have endeavored to imbue Honeyjar with their collective wisdom and judgment. Through the Comms Lab initiative, the platform is being trained on the discernment of various PR experts, ensuring that it can make informed decisions on behalf of its users.
Jamshidi emphasizes the importance of judgment in communication strategies, stressing the significance of understanding company objectives, internal and external dynamics, and effective messaging tailored to specific audiences.
In some instances, Honeyjar may even advise founders that they aren’t yet prepared for media coverage, showcasing a commitment to quality over quantity. Masek envisions a future where journalists receive more credible pitches from legitimate sources, enhancing the overall media landscape.
