Strike Zone: Activision Testers Demand Fair Treatment Before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Release
Call of Duty Testers Vote to Authorize Union Strike
Quality assurance workers at Activision, part of a union established in March 2024, have democratically decided to go on strike if the working conditions at the gaming publisher do not improve. This union comprises nearly 600 dedicated testers who play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of Call of Duty games.
Emily Danko, a member of the Activision Quality Assurance United-CWA bargaining committee, expressed frustration over the prolonged negotiation process in a recent statement. She emphasized the importance of fair wages, suitable accommodations, and proper worker protections, all of which are essential for the well-being of the QA team.
Despite the union’s efforts to engage in meaningful discussions, key issues such as the use of artificial intelligence and the treatment of contract workers remain unresolved. The members of the union are determined to secure a fair contract that reflects their hard work and dedication.
In response to the union’s concerns, an Activision spokesperson stated that the company has been working collaboratively with the Communication Workers of America (CWA) to address various issues. They expressed a commitment to reaching a fair agreement that supports the QA team and ensures the long-term success of the company.
The decision to authorize a strike coincides with the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. This latest installment in the popular franchise has generated significant anticipation among gamers, but the ongoing labor dispute has cast a shadow over the game’s launch.
One tester highlighted the importance of fair treatment and compensation, stating that employees deserve a contract that reflects their contributions to the company. The lack of proper accommodations and the constant threat of layoffs have created a sense of uncertainty among the QA team.
The union’s vote to strike comes at a time when Xbox has announced layoffs as part of cost-cutting measures. This uncertain climate in the gaming industry has added to the concerns of unionized testers, who are seeking solidarity and support in their fight for fair working conditions.
