Apple Unveils iOS 27.2 RC in Preparation for October Release
Apple has recently released the release candidates for iOS 27.2 and its accompanying operating system updates, signaling a public release before the end of October. The unveiling of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup during the “Surprise and Shine” event last month hinted at the upcoming release of iOS 27.2, especially with the announcement of five additional languages for Siri AI scheduled for October.
This year, Apple is skipping iOS 27.1 for the iPhone Duo and aligning all its software updates under the 27.2 version. This decision means there will be no macOS 27.1, iPadOS 27.1, or watchOS 27.1. The entire Apple software family will transition directly to 27.2. It remains uncertain whether the iPhone Duo will receive iOS 27.2, potentially making iOS 27.1 one of the shortest-lived releases.
The anticipated iOS 27.2 update does not introduce revolutionary features but includes improvements like support for five additional Siri AI languages: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Notably, Siri AI remains unavailable in the EU, leaving users in countries like France, Portugal, and Spain without access.
Other notable changes in iOS 27.2 include one-tap contextual suggestions in Messages for easier note-taking and searching for photos. The Music app icon received a controversial redesign, switching to a stark white icon with black eighth notes. The Apple TV app now supports user profiles, similar to the Apple TV 4K, and Apple Podcasts revamped the “Up Next” queue for improved organization.
Additionally, iOS 27.2 introduces Dual Capture for Group FaceTime calls, anniversary alerts in the Call Context feature, and other minor enhancements. While the beta code hinted at an anti-snatch auto-lock feature, it remains inaccessible during the beta cycle, likely reserved for a future release.
The release candidate (RC) build typically represents the final version released to the public, with Apple occasionally addressing last-minute bugs before the official launch. If Apple follows its usual schedule, iOS 27.2 should be available to the public early next week.
