Apple CarPlay Gets a Conversational Upgrade with Gemini Navigation
Google Introduces Gemini AI Assistant to Apple CarPlay
Google has extended its Gemini AI assistant to Apple CarPlay users, following its debut on Android Auto last year. US drivers can now access the conversational Gemini in navigation on CarPlay, with a global rollout underway. Specific regional availability details are being confirmed by Google.
After almost a year of development, Google has integrated the Gemini AI assistant into Google Maps for CarPlay users. This feature allows drivers to interact with the voice assistant hands-free, enabling them to ask multi-step questions and receive recommendations on places to visit. Users can activate the feature by tapping the Gemini icon within Google Maps on their car’s infotainment display.
This CarPlay support update by Google is focused on providing a conversational approach to reporting traffic disruptions and accessing information about stops and places while on the move. While the update does not include the Personal Intelligence features recently introduced for Gemini in Android Auto and Google-built cars, which allow the voice assistant to access user data from various Google apps, Google is considering extending this functionality to CarPlay users as well. Further details on personalization updates for CarPlay users are pending confirmation.
