Introducing the EufyCam S4 Hybrid: Solar-Powered Bullet-PTZ Camera for Enhanced Security

Today, Eufy has announced the new eufyCam S4, described as the industry’s first do-it-yourself solar-powered hybrid camera.

This new device combines a 4K fixed bullet lens with dual 2K pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) lenses. This tri-cam design is intended to deliver 360-degree coverage and non-stop solar-powered security. The camera system is also stated to provide detailed facial recognition from distances of up to 15 metres.

This launch follows an earlier 2025 product release from the brand, the eufy PoE NVR Security System S4 Max. That system was described as the world’s first NVR system powered by an integrated large AI model technology, known as the Local AI Agent, and was also equipped with tri-cam bullet and PTZ cameras for 360-degree surveillance.

With the release of the eufyCam S4, the company states it is introducing that same multi-angle protection concept into a single, compact device. The design is positioned as a solution that replaces and outperforms the use of separate bullet and PTZ cameras, offering a more versatile security option.

A Triple-Lens Hybrid Camera System

The eufyCam S4’s primary feature is its triple-lens configuration, which pairs a 4K wide-angle bullet camera with a 2K dual-lens PTZ camera. This allows the single device to deliver both comprehensive monitoring of a wide area and precision tracking of specific subjects.

The Fixed Bullet Lens

The bullet camera component is a fixed-position lens. It captures footage in 4K resolution and offers a 130-degree fixed field of view, as confirmed by the product’s specifications. The intended function of this wide-angle lens is to provide broad area coverage. It is designed to keep a steady watch over key entry points, such as doors and driveways, ensuring these critical zones are persistently monitored.

The Dual-Lens PTZ Camera

Working in tandem with the bullet lens is the pan-tilt-zoom camera. This component features dual 2K lenses and provides 360-degree field-of-view tracking. One of the lenses is a telephoto lens with a 46-degree field of view. Unlike the static bullet camera, the PTZ camera is designed for active monitoring. It can observe larger or more dynamic areas, such as yards and open spaces. Its function is to provide detailed, close-up views of activity within its range by moving and zooming.

The camera system also includes features for night-time operation. It is equipped with five LED spotlights which are used to provide colour night vision, allowing the camera to capture full-colour images in low-light conditions.

Advanced AI Tracking and Surveillance

The hardware components of the eufyCam S4 are coordinated by artificial intelligence systems to track activity. The system uses what the company calls AI Tracking 2.0. This technology enables the 4K bullet camera and the 2K PTZ camera to work together seamlessly.

As activity moves across different zones, the cameras can automatically coordinate their actions and reframe the shot. This feature is also referred to as Bullet-co-PTZ Tracking.

The system is also equipped with a feature named Intelligent Auto-Framing, which is also noted in the product’s list of key functions. With this capability, the PTZ lenses can lock onto motion. Once locked, they automatically zoom in or out with precision to keep the subject in frame. This system is designed to smoothly track people or objects at a distance of up to 50 metres, or 164 feet.

The stated goal of this combined triple-lens hardware and AI tracking software is to deliver versatile coverage across a property, capturing details without blind spots.

Solar Power and Hardware Durability

The eufyCam S4 is designed for non-stop operation using a built-in solar charging system.

Solar Panel Technology

The camera features a built-in 5.5W solar panel, which is described by eufy as its largest and most efficient panel to date. Product information states that this panel can fully charge the camera for an entire day’s operation with just one hour of direct sunlight. This feature is identified in specifications as SolarPlus 2.0.

The solar panel has a detachable design, offering versatility for installation. A user can choose to detach the panel from the camera body and position it separately. This allows the panel to be placed in a location with optimal sun exposure, even if the camera itself is in a shaded area. Alternatively, the panel can remain attached to the camera for a cleaner, low-drill setup.

Physical Construction

The solar panel has been designed for durability in outdoor environments. It features a unique edge-sealed design. This construction method is intended to enhance its durability by preventing common issues such as warping and bubbling, which can occur with outdoor exposure.

Furthermore, the panel is made using ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) film. This material was chosen for its superior resistance to water, dust, and corrosion. These characteristics contribute to the long-lasting outdoor performance of the solar charging system.

To ensure the camera remains powered even in extreme conditions or during periods of prolonged low light, it is also equipped with a quick-swap rechargeable battery.

Detection, Deterrence, and Recording

Dual Motion Detection

The camera uses a dual motion detection system to identify movement accurately. This system combines two types of technology: radar and passive infrared (PIR).
