Microsoft AI is dedicated to developing superintelligence that prioritizes the well-being of humanity. Mustafa Suleyman, the head of Microsoft AI, recently announced the formation of a new team focused on creating a “humanist superintelligence” that is designed to serve and support humans.

Suleyman emphasized that this form of superintelligence will not be autonomous or unlimited. Instead, it will be carefully controlled and operate within predefined limits. Since joining Microsoft as the CEO of Microsoft AI, Suleyman has overseen the launch of the company’s first in-house models for text, voice, and image generation.

While Microsoft AI aims to avoid a race to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), its competition with OpenAI is heating up. Through a new agreement with OpenAI, Microsoft now has the opportunity to independently pursue AGI development. This includes utilizing OpenAI’s intellectual property to advance its own AGI technology.

Suleyman envisions “humanist” superintelligence with practical applications in various fields. This includes serving as an AI companion to assist with learning, productivity, and support, providing aid in healthcare, and contributing to scientific advancements in clean energy.

According to Suleyman, Microsoft AI’s focus is on prioritizing human well-being over AI advancement. The concept of humanist superintelligence ensures that AI is aligned with humanity’s goals and remains under human control, preventing any potential negative outcomes.
