Record-Breaking Sale: Gordon Murray S1 LM Fetches $20.6 Million at Las Vegas Auction
Gordon Murray Automotive S1 LM Sold for Record Price at Las Vegas Auction
The ultra-rare Gordon Murray Automotive S1 LM, inspired by the iconic McLaren F1 LM, has recently been sold at a record-breaking price. This hypercar, known as the first-ever S1 LM with chassis number 1, was auctioned by RM Sotheby’s during the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix. The final selling price reached an astonishing $20.63 million, setting a new benchmark as the most expensive new car ever sold at auction, excluding charitable sales.
Designed by the renowned British racing car designer Gordon Murray, the S1 LM is considered the spiritual successor to the McLaren F1 LM. With only five units ever produced, this car is a true collector’s item. During the live auction, the S1 LM was even showcased flying above the city of Las Vegas suspended beneath a helicopter.

The S1 LM boasts a distinctive design with a lowered roofline, a custom front splitter, a rear diffuser, and a dual-element rear wing. Its body panels are crafted from ultra-lightweight carbon fiber, and it features Le Mans-inspired lighting. The interior of the car is race-focused, with a central driving position offering a truly immersive experience.

Under the hood, the S1 LM is powered by a robust 4.3-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine that can rev up to an impressive 12,100 rpm, delivering over 700 horsepower. This powerplant is mated to a manual gearbox and features a specially tuned suspension system for optimal performance.
