Amazon’s Fast and Furious: The Future of 30-Minute Deliveries
Amazon’s Ultra-Fast Delivery Service Now Available in Seattle and Philadelphia
Amazon has launched a new ultra-fast delivery service called Amazon Now, offering customers in select areas the convenience of receiving household goods in 30 minutes or less. This service, currently available in parts of Seattle and Philadelphia, allows eligible customers to shop for a variety of items including fresh produce, electronics, cosmetics, and more.
How Amazon Now Works
Amazon Now is integrated into the main Amazon shopping app in the designated areas. Users can easily track their orders and tip delivery drivers through the app. By selecting the “30-Minute Delivery” option in the app navigation bar, customers can determine if they are eligible for this expedited service. Delivery fees start at $3.99 for Prime members and $13.99 for non-Prime members, with an additional $1.99 basket fee for orders under $15.
Specialized Fulfillment Facilities for Quick Deliveries
Amazon Now operates out of small specialized fulfillment centers located near eligible delivery areas. This strategic setup enables Amazon to compete more effectively with other quick delivery services like DoorDash and Instacart.
Amazon’s History of Fast Delivery Services
Amazon’s foray into ultra-fast delivery began with a $60 million investment in the one-hour Kozmo delivery service back in 2000. Subsequently, the company launched a standalone “Prime Now” service for two-hour deliveries in 2014, which was later discontinued in 2021. Despite shutting down its dedicated “Amazon Today” same-day delivery service in October 2024, Amazon continues to offer same-day deliveries to Prime subscribers through its main shopping app.
