Amazon says Alexa Plus can find that movie scene you’re thinking about

Amazon Introduces AI-Powered Feature for Fire TV

Amazon has unveiled a new AI-powered functionality for Fire TV that enables users to navigate to specific moments in a movie by describing the scene to Alexa Plus. This feature, initially announced during Amazon’s hardware event in September, is compatible with Prime Video and enhances the existing X-Ray feature, which provides contextual information about the content being viewed.

In a statement, Amazon expressed its commitment to facilitating quick access to desired content on Fire TV. Users can simply describe a scene from a movie as they would to a friend, and Alexa Plus will promptly navigate to that specific moment, eliminating the need for manual searching.

The Alexa Plus feature is programmed to recognize scene descriptions, character names, and notable quotes from thousands of Prime Video movies. By referencing details such as characters, actors, locations, and memorable lines, users can easily skip to desired scenes, like requesting to locate “the card scene in Love Actually” or “where Joshua asks, ‘shall we play a game?'” in WarGames.

This innovative feature streamlines the process of finding and watching specific scenes compared to traditional fast-forwarding, reducing the reliance on external platforms like YouTube. Amazon emphasizes that the functionality leverages various AI models, including Amazon Nova and Anthropic Claude, and can identify movies even without explicit titles in the descriptions.

Currently, the Fire TV feature is limited to indexed scenes in select movies that have been purchased, rented from Prime Video, or are accessible through a Prime membership subscription. Amazon plans to expand the feature to include more scenes and TV shows in the near future.
