ScrubMarine Secures €849k Pre-Seed Funding to Revolutionize Subsea Robotics

ScrubMarine, a pioneering UK-based startup specializing in the development of subsea robotics and data systems for inspection and maintenance, has successfully closed its pre-Seed funding round, raising an impressive €849k ($1 million). The primary objectives of this funding round are to accelerate engineering efforts, expand the team, and transition into the next phase of growth.

The round was supported by prominent investors including PXN Ventures North Of England, SFC Capital, as well as strategic angel investors Colin Greene and Graham Westgarth. Notably, SFC Capital and PXN Ventures emerged as the lead investors, underscoring their confidence in the potential of ScrubMarine.

Rohith Devanathan, the co-founder and CEO of ScrubMarine, expressed his excitement about the funding round in a recent LinkedIn post, emphasizing the company’s mission to revolutionize the maritime industry. Devanathan stated, “The maritime world drives global trade, yet much of its infrastructure relies on outdated processes. We are committed to developing autonomous systems capable of operating in the most challenging environments on Earth.”

Founded by Rohith Devanathan and Clyne Albertelli and headquartered in Whitehaven, Cumbria, ScrubMarine is dedicated to creating autonomous robotic systems for maritime inspection and maintenance. The company’s innovative approach aims to enhance the safety, efficiency, and scalability of underwater operations, surpassing traditional methods that are often slow, labor-intensive, high-risk, and expensive.

ScrubMarine specializes in the design and deployment of compact underwater robots that offer a range of services, including hull cleaning and inspection, as well as maintenance of offshore wind and oil structures. The company’s platform integrates modular subsea robotics with cloud-based analytics, delivering continuous insights into the condition of vessels and offshore assets.

In a significant achievement earlier this year, ScrubMarine was selected to participate in the 2025 Global Business Innovation Programme (GBIP), organized by Innovate UK and the UK Department for Transport. Moreover, the company secured approximately €229k (£200k) in pre-Seed funding led by Praetura Ventures in 2024, demonstrating its continued growth and potential.
