The End of an Era: NBA 2K24 Servers Shut Down on January 1, 2026

As we usher in a new year, basketball enthusiasts brace themselves for a significant event – the annual shutdown of NBA 2K servers. Effective January 1, 2026, all online features for NBA 2K24 have been deactivated. This includes multiplayer modes, MyCareer, and MyTeam. However, offline modes like MyNBA and Play Now remain playable. NBA 2K24, which was released on September 8, 2023, was officially taken off the market in October 2025.

The official support page for NBA 2K announced, “Starting January 1, 2026, players will no longer have access to multiplayer games or online game modes. MyCAREER and MyTEAM will be discontinued, and earning Virtual Currency (VC) will no longer be possible. While Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA will still be accessible, any features requiring a connection to 2K servers will be disabled. This includes multiplayer, Online Leagues, and community sharing. We appreciate your support and hope you continue to enjoy NBA 2K!”

Reflecting on NBA 2K24, our review highlighted, “Irrespective of critical feedback, NBA 2K24 has garnered immense popularity and financial success through VC sales. This can be attributed to the franchise’s monopoly in the basketball gaming sphere. The gameplay itself is commendable, but the aggressive monetization strategies have rendered modes like MyCareer excessively reliant on additional investments from players.”
