Get ready to preorder LEGO’s incredibly detailed, non-functional Game Boy replica

LEGO Game Boy Set: A Nostalgic Must-Have for Retro Gamers
LEGO has once again tapped into nostalgia with its latest release, targeting those who fondly remember Nintendo’s classic handheld gaming device. The new LEGO Game Boy set is now available for pre-order at various retailers, including Amazon, with a scheduled release date of October 1. This set is shaping up to be a coveted item for collectors and retro gaming enthusiasts.
This brick-built replica of the original DMG-01 Game Boy consists of 421 pieces, offering a near one-to-one scale representation. In a delightful nod to the past, the set includes miniature LEGO versions of two iconic game cartridges: Super Mario Land and the original version of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.
True to the original design, you can insert either game cartridge into the back of the console. Additionally, the set comes with a display stand for showcasing the cartridge that is not in use.
Adding a touch of whimsy, LEGO has incorporated lenticular screens for the front display. This feature allows users to switch between a classic Nintendo startup screen and in-game scenes from the included titles. With a slight tilt, the screen appears to animate, enhancing the overall retro gaming experience.
Although the LEGO Game Boy set does not function as a playable gaming device, it serves as a delightful decorative piece that sparks the imagination. Priced at $59.99, the set is available for pre-order at major retailers such as Amazon, the LEGO Store, and Best Buy.
Currently, the set is in stock at the latter two retailers, but availability may change as the release date approaches. For those who miss out on pre-orders, Walmart is also offering the set at the same price.
Given the success of previous retro Nintendo-themed LEGO sets, including the LEGO NES and the Mario & Yoshi SNES diorama, the LEGO Game Boy is expected to be in high demand. If you are a fan of retro gaming and looking to add a unique piece to your collection, this set is a perfect choice. While it may not allow you to play Tetris, it will certainly make a charming addition to your display shelf alongside your old cartridges or amiibo collection.
