Salesforce’s Latest Weapon: Introducing Slackbot AI to Compete with Microsoft and Google in Workplace AI
Salesforce recently unveiled a revamped version of Slackbot, their workplace assistant, marking a significant shift from a basic notification tool to a powerful AI agent. This new Slackbot, now available to Business+ and Enterprise+ customers, signifies Salesforce’s move to position Slack at the forefront of the “agentic AI” trend, where software agents collaborate with humans to accomplish complex tasks.
According to Parker Harris, Salesforce’s co-founder and Slack’s CTO, the new Slackbot is not just an ordinary AI assistant but the gateway to the agentic enterprise, powered by Salesforce. The previous version of Slackbot, a basic algorithmic tool, has undergone a complete overhaul to incorporate a large language model and advanced search capabilities that can access enterprise data from various sources like Salesforce records, Google Drive, calendar data, and Slack conversations.
The new Slackbot operates on Anthropic’s large language model, Claude, chosen due to compliance requirements, especially for serving U.S. federal government customers under FedRAMP Moderate certification. Salesforce plans to support additional providers like Google’s Gemini and OpenAI in the future.
Internally, Salesforce tested the new Slackbot with all 80,000 employees, reporting remarkable results with high adoption rates and significant time savings. The adoption was driven organically, with employees sharing tips and tricks to enhance their experience with Slackbot.
One of the key features demonstrated by Slack’s product experience designer, Amy Bauer, is Slackbot’s ability to synthesize information from various sources, providing executive-ready insights and facilitating decision-making processes within the organization.
Among the pilot customers of the new Slackbot is Beast Industries, the parent company of YouTube star MrBeast, where employees reported substantial time savings and increased efficiency with the AI assistant.
Salesforce’s launch of Slackbot puts them in direct competition with Microsoft’s Copilot and Google’s Gemini, emphasizing Slackbot’s contextual understanding and convenience for users. The company envisions Slackbot as a central hub that can coordinate with other AI agents across the organization, creating a seamless experience for employees.
While Slackbot is included at no extra cost for Business+ and Enterprise+ customers, Salesforce’s broader data access fees may impact some enterprise customers. The company aims to make Slackbot a versatile “super agent” that can interact with various AI agents and tools, streamlining work processes and enhancing productivity.
Looking ahead, Salesforce sees the future of work as conversational, with employees interacting with AI through natural language, leading to increased efficiency and improved decision-making. The company is betting on Slackbot to transform the way employees work, making it an indispensable tool for enterprise productivity.
In conclusion, Salesforce’s launch of the new Slackbot represents a significant step towards integrating AI into the workplace, aiming to enhance collaboration, streamline tasks, and improve overall productivity. The company’s vision for Slackbot as a central hub for AI agents and tools showcases their commitment to innovation and efficiency in the evolving landscape of enterprise technology.
