The End of Aeternum: Game Delisting and Server Shutdown
New World MMORPG to Shut Down in January 2027
Following the announcement that no new content will be coming to New World: Aeternum after the current season, it has now been confirmed that Amazon’s MMORPG will be shutting down in January 2027. The game has been delisted and is no longer available for purchase.
The team expressed their gratitude to the players in a farewell message, thanking them for their dedication and passion in crafting the world of Aeternum together. They acknowledged the special community that was built and expressed sadness at saying goodbye.
The game server shutdown is scheduled for January 31, 2027, with a full year’s notice given before the service is removed. Marks of Fortune, the premium in-game currency, will also be removed from sale on July 20.
Despite the impending closure, the Nighthaven season will be extended until the very end. However, no further content changes or server merges are planned. The team will continue to monitor bugs and performance issues.
It is noteworthy that New World’s journey has been significant, with a strong start in 2021 but a decline in player numbers following the announcement of no new content updates. The game saw a peak of over 900,000 concurrent players at launch, but has since seen fluctuations in player counts.
Since the announcement, player numbers have dropped significantly, with daily peak player counts reaching new lows. Despite this, there may still be a final surge of players logging in for one last hurrah in January 2027.
Conclusion
As New World prepares to bid farewell, players have the opportunity to enjoy the Nighthaven season until the game shuts down in January 2027. The team’s gratitude towards the community is evident, and the journey of New World will be remembered for the world of Aeternum that was crafted together.
