Electric Revolution: A Quarter of BMW Group Cars Sold in Europe by 2025 are Electric
The BMW Group Dominates the EV Market in Europe
When it comes to electric vehicle (EV) sales in Europe, the BMW Group is leading the pack. In 2025, a staggering 25% of all vehicles sold on the continent were fully electric, showcasing the company’s dominance in the region. This strong performance is a testament to Europe’s commitment to sustainability and the transition towards clean energy.
BMW’s Diversified EV Lineup
The BMW Group’s strategy of offering a diverse range of plug-in hybrids has also been a key factor in its success. By combining EVs and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), the company accounted for over 40% of European sales in 2025. This comprehensive approach has not only boosted sales but also positioned BMW to meet the European Union’s stringent CO₂ fleet emissions target for 2025.
Strong Performance in European Markets
Over the past year, BMW and MINI have seen significant growth in Europe, with total deliveries increasing by 7.3% to over 1 million units. The German market, in particular, saw a demand surge of 8.7%, further solidifying the company’s stronghold in its home country. As BMW gears up for 2026, the introduction of the Neue Klasse lineup promises radical changes and a wave of new products, including the highly anticipated iX3.
Future Innovations and Expansion
Looking ahead, BMW is set to launch the next-generation 3 Series and X5, both featuring plug-in hybrid variants. The company is also planning to introduce fully electric versions of these models, such as the i3 and iX5. Additionally, rumors suggest the arrival of the iX4 in 2026, further expanding BMW’s electric vehicle portfolio and driving the adoption of EVs and PHEVs in the market.
BMW’s Ambitious Goals for 2030
With a bold vision for the future, BMW aims to have half of its vehicle sales without a combustion engine by 2030. While the path to achieving this goal may be challenging, the company’s innovative Neue Klasse lineup, along with upcoming models like the i1 and i2, are poised to play a significant role in driving this transition. The continued evolution of the iX1 is also expected to contribute to the overall increase in electric vehicle sales for BMW.
Advocating for Electrification
Despite its focus on electrification, BMW continues to support combustion engines and has opposed premature bans on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in Europe. The company’s advocacy efforts have been successful, as the European Union has extended the sale of gasoline-powered cars beyond 2035, albeit with strict emissions reduction targets. This balanced approach reflects BMW’s commitment to sustainability while adapting to changing market dynamics.
