Light Relief: Edenlux’s Eye-Saving Solution Arrives in America
Addressing Eye Health in the Digital Age: Edenlux’s Innovative Solutions
Smartphones have become an integral part of people’s lives worldwide, with daily usage exceeding three hours on average. Research shows that many adults spend six hours or more in front of screens daily, leading to various eye-health issues such as dry eyes, eye fatigue, blurred vision, headaches, and worsened nearsightedness.
Recognizing the impact of screen-heavy digital lifestyles on eye and ear health, South Korea-based startup Edenlux has developed cutting-edge technology to combat these issues.
The personal experience of Edenlux’s founder and CEO, Sungyong Park, played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s mission. As a military physician, Park faced temporary paralysis of the eye muscles responsible for focusing due to a rare side effect of a muscle relaxant injection. This experience inspired him to import specialized ophthalmic equipment and develop technology to help others protect and restore their vision in a screen-centric world.
Edenlux is gearing up to launch its second wellness device, Eyeary, in the U.S. market. Unlike medical devices, Eyeary falls under the FDA’s wellness category, focusing on vision training and general eye health. The company’s first product, Otus, has already seen success in Asian markets, generating $10 million in revenue.
Eyeary boasts a design that resembles normal glasses, offering a lighter and more comfortable experience for users. With a lens system featuring 144 diopter focal points, Eyeary allows for finer focus adjustments and precise eye-muscle training, promising faster results compared to its predecessor, Otus.
Edenlux’s innovative approach extends to data collection and analysis, with Eyeary pairing with a mobile app to track and analyze users’ progress. By leveraging AI technology, Edenlux aims to personalize training programs based on individual data sets, predicting improvement timelines for users.
According to Park, prolonged screen time can strain the ciliary muscle, leading to fatigue and vision problems over time. Edenlux’s suite of products targets specific eye conditions, including visual recovery, dry eye, strabismus, myopia prevention, and auditory recovery.
With a focus on vision and hearing health, Edenlux sees itself in the league of companies like Oura Ring, which provide insights into human data through software subscriptions. The company’s target demographic includes individuals who regularly use smartphones and earphones, aiming to tackle the root causes of eye and hearing problems stemming from digital device overuse.
Having secured significant funding in Series A and Series B rounds, Edenlux is making strides in the industry. The company recently established a U.S. subsidiary for final device assembly and is exploring partnerships with tech giants like Apple and Samsung to integrate its vision-protecting technology into smartphones.
Combining personal experience, advanced science, and hardware devices, Edenlux is at the forefront of promoting eye health in the digital age. The company believes that addressing eye health is not just a wellness trend but an emerging frontier in consumer technology.
