Samsung Galaxy S26 Series May Receive Google’s Scam Detection Feature

Exciting times are ahead as Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S26 series is set to arrive soon, and it seems they will be incorporating one of Google Pixel’s top features.

The upcoming S26 range is expected to introduce Qi2 magnetic wireless charging, catching up to the Pixel 10 series, and possibly include the exclusive Scam Detection feature currently found only on Google’s own-brand mobiles.

Nano-flavoured Scam Detection

The evidence, as discovered by Android Authority, suggests that the exclusivity of Scam Detection may soon come to an end. Code snippets within Google’s Phone app refer to Galaxy S26 models in the dialler.

These models are SM-S942, SM-S947, and SM-S948, representing the S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra, respectively. The mention of ‘sharpie’ in the code hints at the integration of Scam Detection.

Notably, these Samsung models are mentioned alongside recent Pixel devices like the Pixel 10 and Pixel 9 series, indicating a significant development.

Recent Pixel phones utilize Google’s Gemini Nano technology for advanced scam screening, hinting that Samsung’s implementation may also utilize this portable AI model.

Scam Detection leverages Google Nano AI for on-device processing to identify and alert users to potential scam calls, enhancing security and reducing the risk of falling for phishing attacks. It also extends to text messages and select chat apps.

The advanced version of Scam Detection is currently exclusive to Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 models, with earlier Pixel devices, including the Pixel 6, using a different machine learning model.

The potential inclusion of this feature in the Galaxy S26 devices is significant and could diminish one of the reasons to opt for a Pixel phone. However, its implementation is not guaranteed.

One potential hurdle is that Samsung phones come preloaded with Samsung’s own dialler instead of Google’s Phone app. Yet, considering Samsung’s previous adoption of Google Messages in 2024, a shift to Google’s dialler in One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S26 is not out of the question.

More details are expected to surface as the Galaxy S26 range is rumored to launch on 25 February.
