Toyota GR GT: An Open-Top Aero Top Variant in Development

Exciting news for Toyota enthusiasts as reports suggest that Toyota may be expanding the lineup of its flagship sports car, the Toyota GR GT, with the development of an open-top version. This new variant, known as the “Aero Top,” is rumored to feature a removable roof panel, offering a unique driving experience.

The concept of the Aero Top is not entirely new to Toyota, as the name has previously been used on the fourth-generation Supra. This setup allows for a targa-style configuration, where the roof above the occupants can be lifted out while maintaining the structural integrity of the vehicle.

This design provides the thrill of open-air driving without compromising on rigidity, striking a balance between a coupe and a full convertible. The production volume of this variant remains uncertain at this time.

Aside from the Aero Top model, Toyota is also expected to release a high-performance, track-focused version of the GR GT. Prototypes of various GR GT iterations have already been seen undergoing testing at the renowned Nurburgring track.

The standard Toyota GR GT is equipped with a powerful 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, complemented by an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. This formidable powertrain delivers a combined output of 478 kW (640 hp) and 850 Nm (627 lb ft) of torque to the rear wheels.
