Introducing Xiaomi’s Latest SUV Lineup: Skynomad N70 and N90

Xiaomi, the renowned Chinese tech giant and automaker, is making waves in the automotive industry with its new offerings. While the brand is famous for its sleek and high-performance electric vehicles, it is now venturing into the SUV market with the launch of the Skynomad N70 and N90.

These two SUVs mark a significant departure for Xiaomi, featuring an extended-range electric (EREV) powertrain that combines a large battery pack and electric motors with a 1.5-litre petrol engine. The innovative powertrain design allows the petrol engine to act as a range extender, charging the battery instead of directly powering the wheels.

What sets the Skynomad duo apart is the size of their batteries, which are notably larger than those found in other EREVs or plug-in hybrids. Customers can choose between a 52kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery or a 76kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, offering impressive range capabilities.

For comparison, the Tesla Model Y, Australia’s top-selling EV, comes with a 62.5kWh battery pack, while the Toyota RAV4 PHEV features a 22.7kWh battery pack.

According to Xiaomi, the N70 boasts a CLTC-rated range of 505km with the 76kWh battery, while the slightly larger N90 offers a range of 464km with the same battery. These impressive figures demonstrate the vehicles’ efficiency and range capabilities.

Advanced Features and Technology

In addition to their cutting-edge powertrains, the N70 and N90 come packed with advanced features and technology. Both models offer a unique seating arrangement, with the N90 accommodating seven passengers thanks to an extra row of seats.

The interior of the vehicles is highly modular, allowing for various configurations of the seats. The mid-mounted captain’s chairs can be transformed into recliners or full-length footrests for passengers in the third row. Additionally, the front seats can be rotated to create a lounge-like layout with the second row, complete with a convertible center console.

The interior also boasts speakers in the headrests, optional screens for second-row passengers, dual sunroofs, and more, enhancing the overall comfort and entertainment experience for occupants.

Impressive Performance and Affordability

Despite their advanced technology and luxurious features, the new Skynomad models are surprisingly affordable in their home market. The N70 with a 76kWh battery starts at ¥259,900 (~A$54,800), while the N90 Max is priced from ¥299,900 (~A$63,250).
