GWM Focuses on Enhancing Advanced Driver Assistance System Amid Criticisms

GWM has reiterated its commitment to fine-tuning and improving its Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) in response to feedback regarding the safety technology.

In addition to features like cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and blind-spot detection, GWM’s ADAS aims to help vehicles stay in their lanes and prevent them from veering off the road. However, recent criticisms have pointed out that the system may be overly intrusive.

Rob Trubiani, a former Holden vehicle dynamics engineer now leading the tuning of GWM models for Australian conditions, highlighted the significance of ADAS in recent development endeavors.

Development of New GWM Models in Australia

GWM engineers from the company’s headquarters in China recently collaborated on the development of the upcoming Cannon Alpha dual-cab ute and Tank 500 large SUV. These models are set to receive a new 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, with a focus on enhancing ride comfort, handling, transmission performance, and throttle mapping.

During this development phase, ADAS played a crucial role, leading to the addition of a traditional cruise control feature based on consumer preferences.

Previously, the Cannon Alpha and Tank 500 models offered adaptive cruise control, allowing for speed adjustments based on traffic conditions. The new intelligent cruise control feature includes lane-keep assist for added driver supervision.

GWM envisions the upcoming 3.0-litre Cannon Alpha and Tank 500 models as key players in establishing the brand as a top-five contender in the Australian automotive market.
